Toyota HiLux dashcam hardwire fuse guide (Australia)
Toyota HiLux (8th gen, 2015+). Cabin fuse panels sit behind the glovebox, and owners say there are empty ignition-powered slots at the far left. We have fuse names but no confirmed slot numbers.
Core fields known: 3/4 (✓ Box location · ✓ Fuse type · ✓ Switched (ACC) slot · ✗ Constant slot). Known doesn't mean verified. See the evidence badges below.
Fuse box location and type
Location: Behind the glovebox, far left side (a small black box with a white one below it); another panel is reachable under the left panel in the passenger footwell. Engine-bay box is separate - not used for dashcams. [1][2] Owner-reported
Remove the glovebox and the passenger-side kick-panel trim to get at them.
Fuse type: Low-profile Mini (LPM), described by an owner as 'Micro blade': Mini blade spacing with a recessed body. A standard Mini will physically fit in an emergency. [1] Owner-reported
Pull one fuse and compare before buying taps. Confirm by measuring.
Scope of this data: Fuse names are from a 'mod. 2016 GEN' table (general market, not AU-specific). Facelift years (2020+) not separately checked.
Constant (always-on) fuse candidates
Battery-direct slots: 12V with the ignition off. Use for the camera’s parking-mode (BATT) wire. Candidates only. Meter each one.
Unknown, help us verify. We have no source-backed slot yet. Submit what you found.
Unknown, help us verify. One poster tested fuses with a circuit tester and reported they 'seem to be all constant' (which conflicts with the ignition-slot report above); not resolved.
Ignition / ACC (switched) fuse candidates
Slots that read 0V with the ignition off and ~12V when it’s on. Candidates only. Meter each one.
| Slot | Rating | Label | Evidence | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Empty slot(s), far left behind glovebox | Unknown | (no label) | Owner-reported | Owner says 'a couple of empty fuse spots that are ignition powered'. Slot numbers not given. [1] |
| P/OUTLET NO.1 (instrument-panel J/B) | 15A | P/OUTLET NO.1 | Label name only | Power-outlet label usually means switched, but this is not confirmed on a HiLux. [3] |
| SFT LOCK-ACC (instrument-panel J/B) | 10A | SFT LOCK-ACC | Label name only | 'ACC' is in the name. What else it feeds: Unknown, help us verify. [3] |
| ACC (cabin J/B) | 5A | ACC | Label name only | Avoid unless metering shows no better option: the source lists a very long list of ECU circuits on this fuse. [3] |
Nothing here has been meter-confirmed by a source we can read. Treat as candidates to test.

Gotchas for this vehicle
How to verify before you tap (generic)
- Find the fuse box and its cover diagram. Use a multimeter or test light, with the black lead on bare chassis metal.
- Test both contacts on the top of each candidate fuse. Constant: 12V+ with the ignition off. Switched (ACC): 0V with the ignition off, 12V+ with the ignition on. Check again after the car has been locked a few minutes: some circuits stay live briefly.
- Don't put the ACC and constant wires in the same fuse slot. Use a fuse in the tap that suits the camera (typically 3–5A), and keep the tap the right way round so the fuse is fed from the supply side.
- Earth the black wire to a clean bare chassis bolt. Cable-tie the tap and wiring so nothing rattles loose.
- Check the dashcam on and off, and after the car sleeps. Look for warning lights, and for the vehicle waking or draining.
Generic method per the BlackVue hardwire kit manual and the BlackboxMyCar guide. Not specific to this vehicle.

Used for: Fuse names/ratings (mod. 2016 GEN table). Not an AU manual.
Why this confidence rating? Cabin box location and fuse size come from AU owner forum posts; fuse names come from a Europe/General-market table, not an AU manual. Nobody has confirmed a slot by number.
Unverified leads. Don't rely on these.
- A search-engine summary claimed 'slot 1, 5A ACC' and Micro2/Micro3 taps. We could not find that in any page we read, so we have not used it.
