Ford Ranger dashcam hardwire fuse guide (Australia)

Ford Ranger (next gen, 2022+). Owners with the same-platform truck report a constant slot (#28, spare) and a switched Micro3 slot (#21/#22). Ford Australia also provides a USB-A at the mirror on Raptor and blunt-cut accessory circuits.

Fuse box location and type

Location: Cabin (passenger-compartment) fuse box, driver's side, per the title of a US owner how-to thread. [2] Owner-reported

Exact AU position and access method: Unknown, help us verify. Ford AU says there are 'clearly labelled spots in the fuse box' for accessories.

Scope of this data: Slot data is from US owners (Ranger6G forum). Ford Australia's add-ons page is the manufacturer source for the AU-market provisions.

Constant (always-on) fuse candidates

Battery-direct slots: 12V with the ignition off. Use for the camera’s parking-mode (BATT) wire. Candidates only. Meter each one.

#28 (spare)30ASPAREOwner-reportedOwner meter-tested the spare slots and found them constantly powered. Rated 30A, so use a small fuse (3-5A) in the tap for the camera. [2]

Ignition / ACC (switched) fuse candidates

Slots that read 0V with the ignition off and ~12V when it’s on. Candidates only. Meter each one.

#21 / #22 (shared socket, spare)5ASPAREOwner-reportedOwner meter-tested: no power until the truck is on. Middle pin is the live one with a Micro3 tap. [2]
#355A(US owners' go-to)Owner-reportedTwo owners use it for a dashcam/Garmin. Our fuse-table transcription lists #35 as 'Not used', so numbering may differ by market or box. Meter it. [3]
USB-A outlet at the base of the rear-view mirror (Raptor only)n/aHigh-mounted USB-AManufacturer sourceFord AU describes it as power-only and able to keep a dashcam powered. Standard on Raptor only. [1]

#3 (wireless charger) is reported both ways: one owner found it live with the truck off, another used it as ACC. Don't use it without metering.

Slots to avoid

Gotchas for this vehicle

Watch out: The #3 wireless-charger fuse behaves inconsistently between trucks. Test it on yours or skip it. [2]
Owners on the forum say stop-start doesn't affect the cabin fuses they use. The fuse chart lists a stop-start fuse in the engine bay, so AU testing is still needed. [3]
Fuse chart lists a Battery Monitoring System fuse. Use a hardwire kit with an adjustable low-voltage cutoff so parking mode doesn't upset the battery management. [4]
Ford AU: Wildtrak/Raptor have an overhead aux-switch bank (AUX 1-6, each fused). It's switched by hand, so it's not an automatic ACC source. [1]

How to verify before you tap (generic)

  1. Find the fuse box and its cover diagram. Use a multimeter or test light, with the black lead on bare chassis metal.
  2. Test both contacts on the top of each candidate fuse. Constant: 12V+ with the ignition off. Switched (ACC): 0V with the ignition off, 12V+ with the ignition on. Check again after the car has been locked a few minutes: some circuits stay live briefly.
  3. Don't put the ACC and constant wires in the same fuse slot. Use a fuse in the tap that suits the camera (typically 3–5A), and keep the tap the right way round so the fuse is fed from the supply side.
  4. Earth the black wire to a clean bare chassis bolt. Cable-tie the tap and wiring so nothing rattles loose.
  5. Check the dashcam on and off, and after the car sleeps. Look for warning lights, and for the vehicle waking or draining.

Generic method per the BlackVue hardwire kit manual and the BlackboxMyCar guide. Not specific to this vehicle.

Why this confidence rating? Slot numbers come from US-market owner threads (2024+ Ranger/Raptor). Same platform as the AU truck, but AU fuse boxes may differ. Ford Australia's own page confirms accessory provisions, not slots.

Unverified leads. Don't rely on these.
  • Some US owners recommend OBD-port power cables to avoid the fuse box altogether. Not checked for AU.
